This was the end of a perfect day – from dawn on Loughrigg Fell, through Rydal and Grasmere and majestic Thirlmere, along the Borrowdale Valley, through Honister Pass to Buttermere and the forests at  Crummockwater. All the while, these perfect fells were bathed in beautiful light. On the way back, Borrowdale was gold in the setting sun, these great Fells casting vast shadows.
